This Chipotle Ranch Dressing is a homemade version of your favorite creamy dressing with a smoky, spicy kick. Serve it over salad, on tacos, with veggies, on burgers, you name it.
I absolutely love homemade dressings. Not only are they healthier than store-bought, but you can customize them so they taste just how you want them to!
One of my favorites is my Greek yogurt ranch dressing. It’s healthy, creamy, and SO flavorful. Sometimes, however, I want Ranch dressing with a little extra kick. Enter chipotle ranch dressing! Just as versatile and delicious but with a little bit of a flavor twist.
Ingredients
- Mayonnaise and Sour Cream – mayo adds richness while sour cream adds a tangy flavor. They both make up a super creamy base for the dressing.
- Buttermilk – thins the dressing out so it can be easily drizzled.
- Lime Juice – gives the dressing a bright, citrus-y freshness.
- Chipotle Peppers in Adobo Sauce – you can use 1-2 peppers depending on your tastes. These add such a delicious smoky and spicy flavor to the rich and creamy dressing.
- Dry Ranch Seasoning Mix and Salt – gives the dressing that classic “Ranch” flavor.
How to make
This easy dressing comes together in just 5 minutes!
- Place mayo, sour cream, buttermilk, lime juice, chipotle peppers, ranch seasoning, and salt into a large bowl or food processor.
- Mix until well combined and creamy then serve and enjoy!
How to thin homemade ranch dressing
If your dressing is too thick for your taste, you can easily thin it out by adding a splash of water or buttermilk.
Keep in mind this may dilute it slightly so you may want to add extra seasonings. Just taste it and make sure!
Tips
- Make it to taste. The great thing about making your own dressing is you can adjust it how you like! Too spicy? Add more mayo and lime. Like the heat? Add more adobo.
- Adjust the texture. This dressing is pretty thick. If you prefer a runnier dressing, add a splash of water to thin it out.
- Make vegan dressing. Swap the mayo out for a vegan variety.
- Lighten it up. Use plain Greek yogurt in place of the sour cream for a slightly healthier version.
How to serve chipotle ranch dressing
There are so many different ways you can use this dressing!
- On tacos. Drizzle it over fish tacos, turkey tacos, sweet potato tacos, you name it.
- As a dip. Use it as a dip for sweet potato fries, tater tots, or fresh veggies like broccoli, sliced peppers, cherry tomatoes, celery, etc.
- Over veggies or greens. Try it over roasted veggies, baked potatoes, or a simple salad.
- In a bowl. Mix it into a breakfast bowl or chicken burrito bowl.
- On burgers. Slather it on pork burgers, black bean burgers, portobello mushroom burgers, etc.
- Over nachos. Serve it over nachos for a spicy flavor twist.

This chipotle ranch dressing will keep in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week.
