Make this for breakfast at home, or on the go, or make this for your afternoon snack! This no banana berry smoothie is sweet from the berries, creamy from the greek yogurt, and I love the tang and acidity from the orange juice. I pinky swear you can’t taste the spinach! It’s also less than 250 calories!
Wait! Don’t go! I know this smoothie is brown, but don’t you know to never judge a book by it’s cover?!
Ahh. Thanks for staying! I’m sorry that this no banana berry green smoothie is brown and ugly, but we all know that while red and green are both gorgeous colors alone, when mixed together, they make brown and in my opinion, brown is only a good color for brownies and fried things. Regardless of its not so beautiful hue, this is the best green smoothie I’ve ever tasted!
Yes. Seriously. It tastes like strawberry, raspberry, orange, and vanilla, but is packed full of spinach! I know you think I’m lying, but I’m not! Yummy and healthy.
As you’ve probably noticed, TONS of food bloggers around the web have been posting healthier or lightened up recipes to kick start 2015, ahem, except me and my post yesterday about breakfast egg rolls. So today, I am here to help with this health movement with my no banana berry green smoothie! The no banana part was the kicker for me, and I’m guessing it will be for some of you, too! I am extremely picky when it comes to green smoothies…
I want it sweet, I want it full of spinach (without tasting like spinach), and I want it delicious!
I’ve tried ones with bananas, honey, mango, cereal, you name it, and I’ve probably tried it in a smoothie, but I haven’t reeeeally fallen in love with one yet. Until now. There’s 5 ingredients, and none of them are banana, and it’s sweet, creamy, and full of nutrients! This no banana berry green smoothie will surely help you stay healthier for 2015!
I have no idea why I don’t like banana in my fruit smoothies. I LOVE banana bread and muffins, and I love banana in a peanut butter protein shake, but when it’s mixed with other fruits and spinach…I don’t know…it just freaks me out, I guess. So with my weird hatred of bananas in smoothies in mind, and also having a New Year’s resolution to learn to like green smoothies, I’ve made the perfect no banana berry green smoothie!
Combine spinach, frozen strawberries, frozen raspberries, non fat vanilla greek yogurt, and a little orange juice into your blender or vitamix
. Blend until smooth. On my Vitamix, there’s a smoothie setting, so I just used that. Drink immediately in your coolest mason jar. Mason jars may be 2013, but that totally makes them vintage now, and therefore, still super cool! 😉
I love how easy this recipe is, because I know how hard it is to put lot of effort into your breakfasts when you’re still half asleep. I also love that you’re getting in a full cup of spinach first thing in the morning! I think this would also be a great afternoon snack for you and your kids! You honestly cannot taste the spinach.
Pinky swear.
I would not touch this smoothie with a 10 foot pole if I even tasted the slightest bit of spinach! Don’t get me wrong, I love the leafy green, but drinking it is still new to me, so I need my green smoothie to not taste like spinach and I need the texture to perfectly smooth and chunk free!
This smoothie is a little sweeter than other green smoothies you’ve probably seen, but most of the sugar comes naturally from the frozen fruit and I used orange juice with no added sugar. The only other “sweetener” in this recipe is non fat vanilla greek yogurt. We can call this the gateway green smoothie…maybe some day I’ll learn to like all kinds of green smoothies. Or maybe I’ll just stick with this one, because it has all my favorite food qualities: sweet, healthy, and delicious!
Let me just tell you again that this no banana berry green smoothie seriously tastes good. Really all you can taste are the berries, a touch of orange juice, and the slightest bit of vanilla. My favorite thing about this smoothie, other than the spinach, and the fact that it tastes ahhhh-mazing, is the protein you get from the greek yogurt! This smoothie is about 220 calories with 13 grams of protein! There’s only .6 grams of fat, and again, you get 1 whole cup of spinach! Any time I can eat my veggies without tasting them, is great for me!
Make this for breakfast at home, or on the go, or make this for your afternoon snack! This no banana berry smoothie is sweet from the berries, creamy from the greek yogurt, and I love the tang and acidity from the orange juice and again… I pinky swear you can’t taste the spinach! This is one meal that you can feel great about eating, that also tastes amazing!

Love it! I’m always looking for new smoothie recipes especially ones that help hide the spinach!
Thanks Christina! Me too! I really think you’ll enjoy this one 🙂
I’m with you: I can’t stand chunky green smoothies; ick! If only all smoothies could be smooth and chunk-free like this one 🙂
Yes!! Let’s work on making all smoothies chunk-free, Matea! 😉
Yo go girl! I always crave smoothies but I feel like they always include a banana. And if they don’t then they have a very clear icy texture. I’m definitely going to try this soon! Pinned!
Thank you! Let me know if you try it! 🙂
I often make green smoothies for breakfast so this recipe is ideal for me. I love how it looks so delicious but is SO healthy!
Thanks Thalia! I hope you get a chance to add this to your smoothie routine! 🙂
A definite try! I put spinach in my smoothies now, but they are frozen banana, yogurt, milk and peanut butter. I’ve been needing a new fix. Thanks for this and the egg muffin recipe.
Hi Tara! You’re welcome 🙂 I hope you enjoy both the recipes!
Jennifer thank you so much for a smoothie recipe without bananas & actually including that in the name! Yay. I’ll even take the ugly brown color just not to have the banana 🙂
Ha! You’re so welcome, Faith! I hope you love it 🙂 You’d might also like my Cherry Smoothie Bowl.
I LOVE THIS! I’m actually allergic to bananas and don’t use them in my smoothies. Also, they’re really high in sugar so even if I wanted to I wouldn’t use them. I use a lot of berries with no sugar added for smoothies. Sometimes I add mango when I want the creaminess of banana.
I’ve been adding mangos to my smoothies lately, too – SO good!! I’m so glad you love this, Taka! Thanks 🙂
I know you posted this 2.5 years ago, but summertime smoothies are *where*it’s*at*, so I thought I’d share my creamy non-banana smoothie secret: TOFU. Silken, to be exact.
Pack the Vitamix with 3 cups spinach, pressed down. Next, any frozen fruit, or ice cubes. Then any whole fresh fruit: peaches, mango, peeled orange, berries. Then a big shake cinnamon, a half teaspoon of chia or hemp seeds for additional protein, 1/2 the standard box of silken tofu and water sufficient to lubricate the whole mass and keep the frozen sufficient from jamming the blender. If I want it sweeter, a tiny bit of manuka honey (ssoo nutritious!) or a few drops stevia liquid.
Very brown usually, but very green, so tropical and fruity and a lovely creamy mouth feel!
LOVE that idea!!
I know this post is old but I absolutely love this smoothie! I don’t like fruit and it’s hard to get in all the veggies I need in a day so this is perfect! I am just delving into smoothies but is the reason they should be consumed right away if because it separates? Is it feasible to make the night before or even the morning of and take it to work to drink about 40 minutes later?
You COULD make them and drink them later, I just personally don’t like it the texture. 🙂 I think these are best served right away!
What if i dont have the greek yogurt n raspberries? I have everything else but those 2 ingredients is that good or bad?
Never mind lol I made it an its so delicious with out the yogurt n raspberries but when I do have those ingredients I’ll definitely gunna try it like that soon! Thank you for this!!! – amanda
Great!!! So glad you loved this!
It’ll still be delicious!
Could I substitute the raspberries for blueberries? I’m not a fan of raspberries but I also don’t like bananas lol
Absolutely! 🙂
