This chocolate berry green protein smoothie is so tasty, naturally sweetened, and packed full of nutrients! Less than 300 calories with 26 grams of protein.
I like posting energizing recipes on Wednesday’s, because I feel like mid-week we all need a little something extra to get us through the rest of the week. A few week’s ago, I posted about these Chocolate Pistachio Energy Bites and today, I have a Chocolate Berry Green Protein Smoothie! I’ve told you this before, but I’ll tell you again, I love starting my day with a breakfast full of veggies and protein. Veggies, because then if I don’t get any in the rest of the day, I don’t feel too guilty. Protein, because it keeps me full and satisfied until my mid morning snack!
I also really like making smoothies in the morning, because they take less than 10 minutes to whip up! As much as I love my No Banana Berry Green Smoothie, I wanted to make a smoothie that had a little more protein. I used that smoothie as inspiration and amped up the spinach, protein and berryliciousness, and I’m lovin’ every sip of it!
I don’t think Trevor is quite as in love with drinking his breakfast as I am – he loves eggs in the morning – but I definitely think I won him over with this chocolate berry green protein smoothie. Probably, because of the chocolate, but hey, I’ll take what I can get!
I’ve really gotten into making smoothies in the morning lately, because Trevor and I have been doing P90x right when we wake up and it’s been kicking our butts! We’re all hot and sweaty, so I don’t feel like eating something hot, like eggs, but still want to get a ton of protein in, so our muscles can recover! This chocolate berry green protein smoothie is the perfect fix!
In my No Banana Berry Green Smoothie I use spinach, strawberries, raspberries, greek yogurt and orange juice. It really is one of my go-to smoothies, but like I said, I wanted some extra protein and nutrients after my work out to help my muscles recover! I packed in more spinach, swapped the strawberries for a mixture of blackberries, raspberries, and blueberries (super food!!), kept the greek yogurt, but used almond milk instead of the orange juice, and used a vegan protein powder called Sunwarrior!
My favorite thing about this smoothie? The almond milk. I’ve been obsessed with it lately! I’ve been using it in my morning latte, enjoying it with muesli, and dunking my favorite monster cookies in it. I’ve never been a huge milk drinker, but I love how almond milk tastes! Plus the health benefits aren’t too shabby either! 😉
Other than using almond milk in this chocolate berry green protein smoothie, I’ve been incorporating more almonds into my diet. That may be because I just bought the most gigantic bag at Sam’s Club. 😉
Growing up, I remember my dad always eating a handful – with a few chocolate chips sprinkled in – as an evening snack. I have continued that habit, although, my favorite way to eat almonds is sprinkled over my salads. I love the added protein, healthy fat, and you can’t beat the crunch (you guys know I’m an “I want everything plus the kitchen sink in my salads” kinda girl)!
Here’s a fun infographic from Nuts.com on why you should incorporate almonds into your diet, although do I really need to convince you? 😉
I love how healthy almonds are for you, and I love how creamy the almond milk makes this chocolate berry green protein smoothie. This smoothie is filling, quick, naturally sweetened, and full of nutrients! It’s a great on-the-go breakfast option, too!
Cheers!
