Crockpot Swedish Meatballs is a quick and easy slow cooker recipe using frozen meatballs; served with a rich and creamy gravy and your choice of fluffy mashed potatoes or noodles.
Why you’ll love this
- Quick and Easy. This is perfect for when you want something semi-homemade. Thanks to pre-made frozen meatballs, this recipe comes together in minutes. If you’re wanting to make it fully homemade, check out the meatballs from my baked Swedish Meatball recipe.
- Flavorful and Unique. If you’re a fan of meatballs, but want to try something a little different, these will not disappoint. Juicy meatballs swimming in a rich and creamy, perfectly spiced gravy? Yes please!
- Comforting and Kid Approved. Velvety gravy, tender meatballs, and fluffy mashed potatoes (or carb of choice)…enough said.
Ingredient notes
- Meatballs – you’ll need 1 (28 oz) bag frozen meatballs. I like using a beef and pork variety. Look for meatballs that are fully cooked and mildly seasoned. You could also used homemade meatballs from my original Swedish Meatball recipe that have been cooked and frozen.
- Broth, Heavy Cream, and Soy Sauce – these make up the liquid portion of the sauce. Use beef broth (or chicken or vegetable, although the flavor won’t be as rich) for flavor. Heavy cream may be substituted for half-and-half. If you don’t have soy sauce replace with tamari, coconut aminos (this would also make a great gluten-free option), or Worchestershire sauce.
- Flour – all-purpose flour is the best choice, but using cornstarch will also work, simply use half the amount listed. An all-purpose gluten-free flour should also be fine.
- Spices: Rosemary, Nutmeg, Allspice, Ginger, Salt and Pepper – this blend of spices is what makes Swedish meatballs so unique, I really don’t recommend omitting or making substitutions.
- Sour Cream – full-fat will give the best flavor and texture, but a lower fat variety or even a thick Greek yogurt is fine.
How to make
- Whisk together sauce ingredients in a greased 6 quart crockpot, then stir in meatballs until fulled coated.
- Cover and cook on HIGH for 3 hours or LOW for 6 hours.
- Remove lid, stir in sour cream, then cook for an additional 30 minutes, uncovered, until the sauce has thickened slightly.
- Serve and enjoy!

What to serve with crockpot swedish meatballs
Swedish meatballs are typically served with mashed potatoes, lingonberry jam and/or pickled cucumbers. Here are some other ideas:
- Egg Noodles (pictured)
- Potatoes: Mashed Potatoes, Roasted Potatoes
- Salads: Caesar Salad, Pear, Blue Cheese, Candied Pecan Salad
How to store
Leftovers will last in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-5 days. I don’t recommend freezing, since we’re using meatballs that were previously frozen.
