I’m back with another easy, cozy, and delicious recipe.
I’ve been posting a TON of winter soup recipes, but what the heck are you supposed to dip IN said soups?
- Crackers are always a solid choice. They’re great for adding texture. Trevor loves peanut butter crackers with any and every soup.
- Crusty bread, Hawaiian Rolls, etc. are also another good option. They’re perfect for soaking up all that delicious broth.
- Homemade air fryer pretzel bites. You saw that one coming, didn’t you? Because pretzel flavors > regular bread. I know you’re with me. 😉
Don’t run away though, because these homemade pretzel bites are actually SO easy, because of my secret ingredient:
- Canned refrigerated biscuit dough!
Woo!
Plus, these get ULTRA perfectly crispy and golden brown, thanks to our trusty air fryer.
Have no fear if you don’t have an air fryer, because helloooo you can bake these too.
Let’s make some pretzels!
What do you need for pretzels?
- Refrigerated canned biscuit dough
- Water
- Baking soda (this gives the dough the pretzel flavor)
- Butter
- Garlic powder
- Maldon sea salt
How do you make soft pretzel bites?
- Bring water and baking soda to a simmer.
- Quarter each biscuit (you’ll end up with 32 bites).
- Roll each quarter into tight balls, make sure the seams are closed.
- Working with 12 pretzel bites at a time, place bites into simmering water/baking soda solution and simmer for 2 minutes.
- Use a steel skimmer to remove the pretzels bites and place them onto a silicone mat lined baking sheet. Repeat with remaining pretzel bites.
- Brush each pretzel bite with melted butter and garlic powder.
- Preheat air fryer to 400 degrees F and spray basket with cooking spray.
- Working with 12 at a time, air fry for 5 minutes, flip the bites, then air fry for another 4-5 minutes.
- Sprinkle with sea salt and enjoy!
How do you make a cheese sauce with pretzels?
- Place cream cheese, cheddar cheese, pepper jack cheese, Worcestershire, dijon, garlic, and salt (with a few dashes of hot sauce, if desired) into a saucepan.
- Whisk over low heat until cheese is hot and melty.
You can see the full recipe for beer cheese dip here.
PSST – I have an amazing beer cheese SOUP that goes great with these air fryer pretzel bites, too!
Can i bake soft pretzel bites with biscuit dough?
You can absolutely bake these soft pretzel bites. 400 degrees F for about 15 minutes, or until golden brown. I’d start checking around 10 minutes.
I haven’t tested these, so let me know if you try it in the comments below!
Homemade air fryer pretzel bites from canned biscuits tips & tricks:
- Don’t use a “flaky” biscuit (for example Grands Flaky Layers Original Biscuits) – the layers expand and start to fall apart in the boiling solution.
- I used Grands! Southern Homestyle Biscuits.
- Keep the dough cold until you’re ready to boil them!
- Cut and shape these when the boiling solution is ready to go! Work as quickly as possible.
- While these are easy, these do get a little sticky after they’ve been boiled, so just be patient and know that these might take a little practice.
- After they’ve boiled, they’re really malleable , but firm up as they cool, before you move onto the air fryer step.
These air fryer pretzel bites are perfectly pretzel-y flavored and I LOVE how soft the middles are, while still being crispy on the outside.
Your [beer cheese] soup is waiting!
