This Garlic Bread Recipe is so quick to make and results in moist, chewy, buttery, garlicky, and deliciously crispy side dish or appetizer.
Ingredients
This combination of ingredients gives the bread of your choice that classic, garlic bread flavor we all know and love.
- Unsalted Butter and Extra Virgin Olive Oil – makes up the base of the garlic butter sauce. I definitely recommend using both. Olive oil adds delicious authentic flavor and moisture while butter adds that classic melty, buttery taste.
- Minced Garlic – be sure to mince your garlic pretty finely so you’re not getting big chunks in any bite of bread.
- Grated Parmesan – adds a subtle nutty cheesiness.
- Diced Parsley and Diced Basil – I highly recommend fresh herbs. Parsley adds a peppery flavor while basil adds an earthy sweetness.
- Salt and Pepper – adds a kick of heat and brings out the flavor of the garlic bread.
- Bread – you can use a baguette which is heartier and chewier or a French loaf which is softer and spongier with a flaky exterior. The choice is yours!
How to make
This classic side dish takes just 5 minutes to prep and is SO GOOD!
- In a medium sized bowl, mix together melted butter, oil, garlic, parmesan, parsley, basil, salt, and pepper until well combined.
- Spread the mixture evenly over two halves of bread.
- Sandwich the two halves back together and wrap in tin foil.
- Place the foil wrapped bread onto a baking sheet lined with a silicone mat and bake at 400ºF for 15-20 minutes.
- Unwrap the bread, open up the slices, and bake for an additional 5 minutes, sprinkle with salt, then slice and serve!
How long to bake garlic bread
The garlic bread should bake wrapped in foil for 15-20 minutes depending on how soft you like it. It will then bake for another 5 minutes unwrapped so it can crisp up!
What bread to use
That’s really up to you! I like to use a baguette because it’s heartier and chewier. If you prefer more classic garlic bread, use a French loaf. It’s softer and sponger with a light and flaky exterior, similar to the texture of Texas toast.
What can you use instead of parsley for garlic bread?
If parsley isn’t your thing, you can either swap it out for more basil or replace it with oregano, cilantro, rosemary, or thyme.
Keep in mind any herb variations will alter the flavor of the garlic bread slightly!
Do you need to wrap in foil?
Yes! Wrapping the bread in foil while it bakes initially allows it to get nice and soft while the garlic butter sauce soaks in without becoming too crunchy on the outside.
The final five minutes of cook time with the bread unwrapped is what makes the top of the bread just slightly golden-brown and crispy!
What to serve with garlic bread
Garlic bread is a classic appetizer served with marinara for dipping. It’s also the perfect side dish next to a number of different entrees…the classics being soup or pasta!
How to store
Garlic bread is definitely best right away but will last in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days or in the freezer for up to 6 months.
To reheat, wrap in foil again and bake at 350ºF for 10-15 minutes. You can also microwave it but it won’t have that toasty exterior.
