This Hawaiian Roll Garlic Bread recipe combines sweet, pillowy rolls with a buttery garlic spread and gooey cheese for an irresistibly easy side dish that pairs with just about anything!
Why you’ll love this
- Quick and Easy. Cut rolls, stuff with cheese, brush with butter, bake, serve, devour!
- Crowd Favorite. Hawaiian rolls are already a winner, so by adding some gooey cheese and melty garlic butter…how could it not be delicious?!
- Customizable. Play around with different cheese, herbs, dipping sauces, etc.
- Versatile. Serve these next to literally any dish and they’ll be gone before you know it.
Ingredients
- Butter – unsalted butter or salted butter works. If using salted, reduce or omit the additional salt. Olive oil or plant-based butter may also be used.
- Parmesan – asiago or romano are great substitutions. Feel free to use the pre-grated variety that’s found in the pasta aisle or grate your own!
- Garlic – use jarred minced garlic for ease! If using fresh garlic, you’ll likely need 4 large cloves, minced.
- Spices: Dried Parsley, Dried Basil, Salt, and Pepper – I like these spices for garlic bread, but feel free to play around by adding Italian seasoning or red pepper flakes. Use fresh herbs to really maximize flavor, if desired. Use 1 tablespoon fresh to replace 1 teaspoon dry.
- Hawaiian Rolls – King’s makes the BEST variety (in my opinion), but use whatever you can find. Canyon Bakehouse makes a gluten-free variety for those with gluten allergies. You could also use another type of roll, but I love the pillowy texture and sweet flavor that the Hawaiian rolls offer. Regardless, you’ll need 1 (12 oz) package.
- Cheese – I loving using 1 (8 oz) package shredded Italian 5 cheese blend (mozzarella, smoked provolone, parmesan, asiago, and romano) to keep things really simple, flavorful, and gooey, but feel free to grate your own cheese for even better melting, if desired!
How to make
- Mix: butter, parmesan, garlic, parsley, basil, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Set aside.
- Cut: rolls in half horizontally to create two “slabs”.
- Sprinkle: cheese over the bottom slab.
- Assemble: place top rolls on, then spread butter mixture evenly over the top.
- Bake: on a silicone mat lined baking sheet at 350 degrees F until the tops are golden and the cheese is gooey.
What to serve with garlic bread
- Pasta. Spaghetti, lasagna, or chicken alfredo all pair beautifully (see all our pastas here).
- Soups and Stews. Tomato, chicken gnocchi, or creamy potato soup are amazing (see all our soups here).
How to store
Leftovers will last in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
To enjoy again, wrap in foil then bake at 350 degrees F until warmed through, about 5-15 minutes (no need to thaw if frozen).
