I am SO excited, because this is the first time I’ve used my air fryer for a sweet recipe!
This is also the first time I’ve made hand pies.
Say hellllloooooo to air fryer hand pies.
You guys are gonna love ’em.
Reasons why I love this recipe:
- I got to use my air fryer again
- I got to eat homemade pie that’s actually EASY to make
- I got to make not 1, not 2, nope, not even 3, but FOUR different flavors of pie
Today, we’re making 4 different hand pies:
- S’Mores
- Blueberry
- Caramel Apple
- Cherry
What flavor would you make first? Let me know in the comments below what flavor I should make next!
But until then, let’s make some hand pies shall we?!
Let’s address the two elephants in the room first:
What is an air fryer?
An air fryer is a kitchen appliance that cooks food by circulating hot air around the food. Aka the food gets “fried” by hot air.
I’m never one for buying the latest and greatest kitchen toys (I’m such a minimalist), but I’m actually really loving our air fryer.
It’s SO much healthier than deep frying, but food gets crispier than “oven fried” recipes.
What are air fryer hand pies?
I had never had a hand pie before I made these and I absolutely LOVE them.
I’m actually not the biggest fan of pie *gasp! I know*, but I’m crazy obsessed with these hand pies.
They’re basically portable pies that are individual sized AND you don’t need utensils to eat them.
Plus, I love the filling to crust ratio.
Now.
You ready to make some pie?!
How to make air fryer s’mores, blueberry, caramel apple, and cherry hand pies
- Unroll refrigerated pie crusts(semi-homemade recipes are the BEST) and use a 4.5 inch round cookie cutter to make 8 even rounds
- Fill with fillings:
- S’Mores: place a heaping half tablespoon marshmallow fluff (drool) and a heaping half tablespoon nutella in the middle of a round
- Blueberry: place a heaping tablespoon blueberry pie filling in the middle of a round
- Caramel Apple: place a heaping tablespoon apple pie filling and an soft caramel square in the middle of a round
- Cherry: place a heaping tablespoon cherry pie filling in the middle of a round
- Moisten the outside of each pie crust round with water
- Fold pie crust in half and press the two seams together
- Use a fork to gently press the seams together further
- Use a sharp knife to score the top of the crust three times (see video for visuals)
- Coat pies with cooking spray and sprinkle with:
- S’Mores: crushed graham crackers
- Blueberry, Caramel Apple, Cherry: coarse turbinado sugar
- Set aside.
- Pre-heat your air fryer to 350 degrees F, place in 2 hand pies and air fry for 11 minutes or until the crust is golden brown
- Repeat with remaining hand pies
Can i bake hand pies?
Yes! I’d suggest 400 degrees F for about 15-20 minutes. Start watching them halfway through so they don’t get too brown!
Is that not SO easy?!
And delicious.
Flakey, perfectly cooked pie crust filled with all your favorite fillings!
While I love them all, I’m a real sucker for the s’mores flavor. 🙂
Air fryer hand pies for the win!
