This Air Fryer Banana Bread is moist in the middle with a slightly crunchy exterior. This indulgent bread is cinnamon sugary, chocolatey, and so addicting.
Do you consider banana bread breakfast, snack, or dessert? Personally, I’m an all day banana bread eater, so I consider it to be fitting for all three, ha! This air fryer banana bread is no different. It’s not too sweet, so it’s perfect for breakfast, but there’s a melty chocolate chip in every bite, so it’s definitely delicious enough for dessert!
Ingredients
Cinnamon Swirl
- Granulated Sugar and Ground Cinnamon – mixed together to create the perfect sweet, yet spicy middle layer in the banana bread. This step is totally optional, but I love the extra cinnamon sugar-y flavor and slight crunch it gives to the outside crust.
Banana Bread
- Granulated Sugar – sweetens the bread along with the mashed banana. Sugar also helps to keep the bread moist. Feel free to use brown sugar or even coconut sugar if that’s what you have on hand.
- Oil – creates an extremely moist banana bread. Be sure to use a neutral flavored oil such as canola oil or avocado oil. Melted butter or melted coconut oil may also be used.
- Vanilla – adds a sweet flavor and depth to any quick bread! Imitation vanilla is cheaper than pure vanilla and often does not taste any different in baked goods, so use whatever you prefer! I use pure vanilla extract, because it’s actually made with vanilla beans.
- Bananas – the MVP for banana bread. It’s important to use very ripe bananas to achieve the best flavor and texture. Extra banana is used to replace an egg, so this recipe is actually accidentally vegan!
- Flour – a good base for all different kinds of baked goods, especially banana bread, that will produce a light, yet moist and tender banana bread. The only other flour that *may* work in this recipe would be whole wheat pastry flour. Anything else would greatly affect the texture of the bread.
- Cinnamon – gives the bread a sweet, spicy flavor. Cinnamon helps make this bread super flavorful and can also lower blood sugar levels and reduce heart disease risk factors!
- Baking Soda and Baking Powder – our leavening agents which give the bread a lift to prevent it from becoming too dense. Quick breads are made without yeast, so for this recipe, we’re using baking soda and baking powder to help the batter rise while it bakes.
- Salt – cuts the sweetness and enhances the other flavors in the bread.
- Chocolate Chips – use whatever chocolate chips you like — semi-sweet, milk, dark chocolate, or even dairy free if you’d like to keep this bread truly vegan.
How to make
Cinnamon Swirl
- Place sugar and ground cinnamon into a small bowl, stir to combine, then set aside.
Banana Bread
- Whisk together sugar, oil, vanilla, and bananas in a medium sized bowl, then fold in flour, cinnamon, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and chocolate chips until *just* combined.
- Sprinkle the bottom and sides of a greased air fryer baking pan with half the cinnamon sugar mixture, fill with half the batter, then sprinkle with remaining cinnamon sugar and top with remaining batter.
- Air fry in a preheated 325 degrees F air fryer until the bread has cooked through.
How long to cook banana bread in the air fryer
Banana bread will cook in a preheated 325 degree F air fryer for 30-40 minutes. The internal temperature should be about 200 degrees F.
Can i put a loaf pan in an air fryer?
If your loaf pan is oven-proof, then it’s safe to use in the air fryer. I don’t have any loaf pans that fit my particular air fryer, but if you do… go for it! Cook times will likely vary.
Variations
- Omit the cinnamon swirl. Simply ditch the cinnamon sugar layer and cook as directed.
- Swap out the chocolate chips. Swap half or all the chocolate chips for another baking chip or chopped nuts of choice.
How to store
Leftover banana bread will last in an airtight container at room temperature for 1 week, in the fridge for up to 2 weeks, or in the freezer for 3-4 months.
To enjoy again, thaw, if frozen, then microwave to warm!
