Place one slice American cheese onto one slice of bread.
Top with sausages and set aside.
Melt 1 tablespoon butter in a non-stick skillet over medium heat.
Once hot, add egg and cook to your liking. Season with salt, pepper, and hot sauce, if desired. Remove and place on top of sausages.
Place remaining slice of cheese gently on top of egg and then gently top with remaining slice of bread.
Melt an additional tablespoon of butter, if necessary, into hot skillet.
Add sandwich and cook until the bottom is golden brown, don’t press down, or you might break the yolk.
Once golden, gently flip, and cook until the other side is golden brown and the cheese has melted.
Serve with a drizzle of maple syrup!
