This Crockpot Chicken Cordon Bleu is a classic comfort food made casserole-style in the slow cooker! Salty ham, tender chicken, gooey Swiss cheese, stuffing mix, and more in a rich and creamy sauce.
What is chicken cordon bleu?
Classic chicken cordon bleu is a dish made up of breaded meat rolled up with cheese and ham.
The term “cordon bleu” is a French term that translates to “blue ribbon” which, when applied to cooking, basically means really yummy food. 😉
Classic chicken cordon bleu has a little bit more structure since it’s rolled up but this crockpot version is more like a casserole. All of the same flavors just tossed in the slow cooker!
Ingredients
- Cream of Mushroom Soup, Sour Cream, and Milk – a rich, creamy, and tangy sauce.
- Salt, Paprika, Garlic Powder, Onion Powder, and Pepper – a simple seasoning blend that adds tons of sweet, smoky, slightly spicy flavor.
- Chicken Breast – I use boneless skinless chicken breasts cubed into smaller pieces.
- Cubed Ham – gives the chicken cordon bleu savory, salty flavor.
- Swiss Cheese – the classic cordon bleu cheese melted in the crockpot for delicious ooey-gooey texture.
- Stuffing Mix – a makeshift “breading” that adds delicious flavor and soft, slightly chewy texture.
- Parmesan, Romano, and Asiago Cheese Blend – these aren’t traditionally used for cordon bleu but I love the extra flavor they add.
- Unsalted Butter – adds flavor depth and moisture.
- Honey Mustard Dressing – for serving, if desired.

What cheese to use
Classic chicken cordon bleu is made with Swiss cheese. Since this recipe is made in the crockpot, we’re using cubed pieces of Swiss cheese which add delicious little melty pockets of cheesy goodness throughout the casserole.
We’re also using a blend of Romano, asiago, and parmesan cheese for even more cheesy flavor!
can you make chicken cordon bleu without a crockpot?
Absolutely! If you’d rather make chicken cordon bleu the traditional way, check out my oven-baked chicken cordon bleu recipe instead.
What to serve with crockpot chicken cordon bleu
I love to serve this chicken cordon bleu topped with homemade honey mustard sauce and a couple of side dishes!
How to store
Store leftover chicken cordon bleu in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days or in the freezer for 2-3 months.
To reheat, thaw in the fridge overnight if frozen then bake or microwave to warm.
